Our Go-To DIY Dog Treat Recipes: Simple DIY Jerky for Dogs

Make it in May!  We're kicking off the new month with some special posts on our personal go-to dog treats and simple easy treats (and shortcuts) for healthy homemade fun.  When I tell people that I make most of our dogs treats, they often assume (1) I'm crazy (2) I have way too much time on my hands (3) our dogs are spoiled. In honestly, they're probably right but it is actually incredibly affordable, healthy, and quick to make your own dog treats.  As much as I love baking and sharing cute and crazy treats here on the blog and with our dogs, the simplest things are still go-tos in our household. What treat do we make most often?  No question about it, it's plain and simple jerky.

Other treats may be a sometimes or a one-of batch, but there is always a container of jerky ready and waiting in our freezer (in fact, there just happens to be a new batch in the dehydrator right at this very minute!).  Our dogs love it, it's healthy, it takes minimal effort to make, and it stores well. Bonus, my husband like to make this treat so it's not always me on kitchen duty! It's very convenient to make using a food dehydrator (we have a simple inexpensive model and it works great for our needs) but you can use your oven, so no special tools required.

Head to our DIY Jerky Treats for dogs post for the detailed instructions and tips for making your own dog-friendly jerky. You'll wonder why it too you so long to try making your own, and chances are good it will become a go-to homemade dog treat at your house too! So simple, so doggone delicious!
